You don’t have to travel to southern France to get that coveted selfie surrounded by a luscious bed of lavender. There are lavender fields here in the United States and one of them, Lavender Pond Farm, is located right here in my home state of Connecticut. The 25-acre farm, is located in picturesque Killingworth, Connecticut and is an easy drive from all points in Connecticut and Rhode Island. The rows of lavender with the forest as a backdrop is quite a stunning sight to behold. It of course smells glorious and is a perfect place to hangout, meditate, do outdoor yoga or just relax!
The farm features a variety of lavender plants (apparently they are not all the same) and are planted in beds that are clearly marked. The farm also has “friendly” bumble bees which coexist with the plants. I saw “friendly” because although, I disturbed them several times when I walked through the paths in the lavender bed, I was not stung. I would still encourage you to be cautious and keep your distance from the honeybees box though. Signs are clearly marked incase you forget.
There are a number of seating areas where you can sit, chat with friends or gaze into the wonderful lavender beds. There is life sized chess, chicken coop with a cocky rooster a gazebo which would be perfect for a wedding or small party and a well stocked store that sells everything from lavender scented candles, fresh-cut or dried lavender bunches, oils, lotions, tea and even lavender lemonade.
Admission to the farm is free. Lavender Pond Farm is located at 318 Roast Meat Hill Road in Killingworth, Connecticut. The lavender blooms are only here for a short time though, so plan to visit soon.
