Luxury in the Poconos at the Mount Airy Resort and Casino

Mount Airy Resort and Casino

The Mount Airy Resort and Casino offers luxury accommodations and quality entertainment for couples, solo travelers, groups and families. Located in Pennsylvania’s beautiful and picturesque Poconos Mountains, the resort sits on 1,056 acres on the former site of the Mount Airy Lodge. The AAA 4 Diamond rated resort has 188 hotel rooms; a 62,000 sq ft casino with 1,800 slot machines and game tables; four restaurants; a luxury spa; a nightclub and an 18-hole golf course.

For me, the word “Poconos” was synonymous with couples only resorts that featured champagne tower jacuzzi’s, and vibrating beds.  I realize that a lot of people are into that, but that’s just not my thing.  Despite the stereotype, I was certainly excited about exploring the Poconos and my excitement began to really build, after my co-worker who had stayed at the resort assured me that I was “going to absolutely love it there”.

The resort is a short 2.5 hour drive from Connecticut via I-84 West to Pennsylvania’s picturesque PA-390S. There is a lot to see during the drive, but the slanted, narrow roads and hairpin turns during the last 30 minutes of the drive on PA-390 require that both hands remain on the wheel and eyes focused on the road.

After a total driving time of three hours, I pulled into the very impressive carport area on the hotel side of the resort and took advantage of the valet service. I was greeted by the friendliest bellhops who offered to help me with my suitcase, even though it was just a tiny one. I entered into the enormous lobby that was seasonally decorated. There were two extraordinary and beautiful chandeliers, a seating area to my left and right and a stacked stone waterfall flanked by stairs on both sides in the center of the room. As I walked over to the front desk, I imagined that a lot of wedding parties where photographed on those stairs and in that lobby. I checked in and headed up to my room on the 9th floor. I am always grateful when a hotel property offers extra security for their guests. I was therefore happy to find that my room key also doubled as an elevator keycard to my floor. The casino, restaurant spa and pool are open to the public, so the extra layer of security in my opinion is critical.

My room was large, luxurious and very well decorated, as was the bathroom. I also had great view of the golf course and lake from my picture window. There was an iHome clock radio, two telephones, a flat screen television, a beverage fridge, a Keurig coffee maker and a bar stacked with great liquor choices. The king sized bed was comfortable and featured a great upholstered headboard with muted grey, beige and taupe tones that put me into a relaxing state of mind. The bed was covered in 100% goose down comforters, Egyptian cotton sheets and fleece blankets. The double rooms and suites were equally as posh and included art work collected by the DeNaples family, who own the resort.

There are 8 eateries on the resort which includes: the Guy Fieri Mount Pocono Kitchen, a 24 hour restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; Lucky 8, a Noodle and Sushi Bar; Get Wet, a bar and grill and nightclub; Nostalgia; a candy store; Bistecca by Il Mulino, an upscale restaurant with great wine and food menu; The Buffet; Red Mango, yogurt café and Starbucks. I ate at 3 of the restaurants and they were honestly all excellent. I was really surprised by the freshness of the fish that was in my sushi at Lucky 8; Guy Fieri’s restaurant offered really unique and flavorful comfort foods that I have not seen elsewhere; and the food and service at Bistecca, honestly blew me away. There was so much that was great about my experience at the Mount Airy Resort and Casino and Bistecca was definitely one of them. My second best experience was the spa.

I’ve been to a number of “luxury” spa’s but NONE of them compare to the Spa and my experience at this resort. I love that they have a separate waiting room for women with chaise lounge chairs and privacy curtains. Those plush robes don’t always give you the sense of security and I was grateful that I was in a room with other women. The massage was very relaxing and the technician applied just the right amount of pressure to also make it therapeutic. I was completely relaxed after my massage and took advantage of the rain showers, the steam and sauna rooms.  I will gladly make the three hour drive there for another service. It was just that good.

The hotel features a clearly very popular and well layed out casino, with a can’t be missed bar area which serves as the center piece of the floor. They actually have a smoking and a non-smoking sides of the casino and while the idea was great, it just was not practical. It’s a casino, and unfortunately you will encounter cigarette smoke. The tables looked a bit too rich for my pockets but I tried my luck on the penny slot machines and actually left $20 richer. There is a club that host world class performers and DJ’s and a swimming pool that converts to a night club after hours. There is also a fitness center and an 18 hole golf course with a clubhouse and pro golf shop for fitness and golfing enthusiasts.

My coworker was right, I absolutely loved it there! Mount Airy is a beautiful, Las Vegas styled resort in the Poconos with a great and easy to navigate floor plan, great restaurants, luxury guest rooms and plenty to do. Located at 312 Woodland Road, Mount Pocono, PA 18344, the resort is two hours outside Philadelphia, New York City and Northern New Jersey and three hours outside Connecticut. There is plenty to do at the hotel, but there is also Callie’s Candy Kitchen, several winery’s including Mountain View Vineyard, shopping at Tannerville Outlets, lots of nature attractions such as Bushkill Falls and quite a few restaurants to choose from, all within a 45 minute drive from the Mount Airy Resort and Casino.

Nice and descriptive write up. Was not biased and pointed out some negative with the smoking. Maybe more info about food and drink prices

  3. Nice! Heading to the Poconos in August for a few days at another resort but good to know for next time.
